Leslie has some good perspectives. Let me expand a bit on the Alias response. I am a "nothing special" kind of person and alias's are built into the program while macros and VBA require "custom" coding that can get lost or present update issues. (Yes, Leslie, I said "can" not "will")
The alias needs to be added to those accounts you frequently use and need to be simple and easily remembered. For example, you could use CSH for the main cash account. You hit Control+Q and then type CSH and the entire cash account is copied into your account number field. Yes, it is not as easy as the auto-fill but you can use it the FIRST time you use an account as well!
