Like you, I cannot see how changing data on the Item Maintenance card would have anything to do with the Word template for invoicing. Since this seems to be a report related problem. Something else must be going on here. Do you have a backup from a time when the invoices were correct? The templates are actually stored in the SQL database. Arguably, you could copy data from a backup to your production company.
I would check the usual suspects.
1. Are they using the correct template when they print (and also are not printing the Standard report)
2. Is that template assigned as the default for that company
3. Is the Report Writer report OK
4. If you recreate the Reports dictionary does it still happen (export your customizations first AND backup the existing Reports.dic)
5. Is the XML data source attached to the template OK
6. Is the report included appropriately in the Alternate/Modified Forms and Reports ID for that user
7. Does this happen for every user
8. Does it happen in every company
9. Does it happen at every workstation
10. Does it happen for the 'sa' user
11. Does it happen for Fabrikam
12. Does it happen from the SQL Server console
13. Check security on the Template Configuration and Template Maintenance window - looking for unauthorized access here, people make mistakes
I would be very interested in knowing what the problem was when you track it down. This sounds like a call I might get in the future.
