Forum Post: RE: Accounting Format Sorting Option

Sort Order is stored in your GP system Database (usually DYNAMICS) in the SY00302 table. (Max Account Length and Max Segments are in the GP system Database SY003001 table. [Would SmartList > Account Transactions work for reviewing the data? I confirmed in GP 2018 that the Sequence Number is maintained between Document Status = Work and Document Status = Open. I have many clients who prefer SmartList for their Edit List/Review. Also, the window/report should be able to be modified to sort the scrolling window/body by Sequence Number.]

I assume by actual cost you mean current cost? A discussion has to take place with their accountant first before attempting this in GP. This completely changes how costs are managed and hence how profit is determined. This means going from periodic inventory to perpetual and changing the valuation on all your items in inventory. This needs to be timed as you will have items inventory that came in one way and now will go out another. Not to mention changes to your ledger as now costs will change with every receipt as opposed to once per year.

Forum Post: Why no batches for Bank Transaction Entry

One of the great mysteries of life is why given that all other modules in Dynamics GP have batches, there is no batching of bank transaction entries or any transactions involving checkbooks. Does anyone know why this is so?

This post is part of the Hands On With Microsoft Dynamics GP 2018 R2 New Features series in which I am going hands on with the new features introduced in Microsoft Dynamics GP 2018 R2 (which was released on the 2 nd October). I reblogged the new features as Microsoft announced them along with some commentary of how I thought they would be received by both my clients and I. In this series, I will be hands on with them giving feedback of how well they work in reality. The seventeenth new feature is SmartList Designer Favourites in Navigation List . This feature will see favourites created for SmartList Designer SmartList objects added to the SmartList Favorites navigation list. As an example, I have created a Vendor EFT SmartList object in SmartList Designer and saved a couple of favourites: In the SmartList Favorites navigation list, I’ve filtered down to the SmartList object I created: I don’t tend to use this navigation list, and I’m not sure any of my clients do. I also have more clients actively using SmartList Builder than SmartList Designer, so I’m not sure how useful they’ll find this. Blog Post: Quick Journals

Jen Kuntz looks at Quick Journals . My attitude has changed toward Quick Journals. I used to like them, and I used them as a controller, but they are clunky to set up and use and two other features are now better options. Recurring batches are easier to use, setup, and change than Quick Journals. They also allow batch approvals, which Quick Journals do not. The other feature that dips into Quick Journal territory is Copy/Paste from Excel.  Copy/Paste from Excel lets users maintain their recurring entries in Excel and simply paste in the current month’s numbers. Since this is done via a Journal Entry there are fewer entry points to manage. Also, preparation of the numbers on the Excel sheet can be separated from the user who actually does the entry.  Quick Journals work fine, I just think that Recurring Batches and Copy/Paste from Excel have made the feature redundant.

Forum Post: RE: GP 2013 manual tax code update

$

While mainstream support for GP 2013 ended 10 April 2018, the tax tables can be manually updated. State Unemployment Tax can be accessed through HR & Payroll\Setup\Unemployment Tax . Local Tax can be accessed through HR & Payroll\Setup\Local Tax\Tables (lower-right button). Federal Tax, FICA, and other taxes (e.g. County) can be accessed through Administration\Setup\System\Payroll Tax . Pick from a list of Tax Codes and select the Filing Status button in the lower-right corner to open the Payroll Tax Filing Status window for the selected Tax Code . While Federal/FICA will list regular (Single/Married) statuses, State Tax Codes will list counties as Filing Statuses. Selecting the Tables button for the selected Filing Status will open up the Payroll Tax Tables window for the combination of Tax Code and Payroll Tax Filing Status . This is where the tax rates and ceilings can be updated. While a high amount of data resides int he combination of Tax Codes , Payroll Tax Filing Statuses , and Tax Tables , only the changes in tax structure will require adjustments. Any format changes to the W-2 reports will need to be manually adjusted in Report Writer. Any new fields to the W-2 would be problematic, though, as they would need to correspond to fields that aren't in any card/transaction windows. As Shawn mentioned, the better route would be to upgrade to a version that retains mainstream support (including Tax Updates).

Blog Post: How to Extend Excel with Reporting Parameters

Have you ever tried getting a drink of water from a fire hose? I’m hoping you haven’t… or if you have, you probably didn’t quench your thirst and instead wound up with a headache! There’s enough water flowing from the hose every second to satisfy your thirst for a week – but spilling out so fast that it’s worthless trying to fill a glass. Microsoft Dynamics GP  is an industrial-strength solution to business and financial management. Especially if your enterprise has been using it for any length of time, the datasets within the system hold a massive amount of information, too much to drink in all at once. Of course, that’s what we have computers for – to process it all for us so we can see the most important data and use it effectively for decision making. The integration between Dynamics and Excel is phenomenal – and Excel is a powerful reporting tool in its own right. However, everything has its limits, and Excel is no exception. More often than not, Dynamics GP datasets contain too much information to run Excel reports. If you don’t limit the number of transactions processed, it can bog down the system and reduce your reporting to a snail’s pace. Thankfully, there’s a solution. Parameters can be added to Excel reports in order to allow end-users to filter data on-the-fly using specific cells set aside for that purpose. At GPUG Summit 2018, Turnkey Technologies’ very own  Sean Hunter   gave a breakout presentation  on how these Parameters can open up a world of reporting possibilities. Here’s a rundown of what was covered: How to connect an Excel spreadsheet to a GP database table using SQL scripts and Microsoft Query. How to add parameters to the data connection and then add those parameters to an Excel spreadsheet cell in order to dynamically change the data in the spreadsheet. Advanced features: How to use stored procedures and their associated parameters in Excel. Blog Post: 5 Key Employee Financial Wellness Statistics for 2019

$

It’s no secret that managing your finances is challenging. What many employers are beginning to realize, however, is that financial stress doesn’t just harm employees. It hurts their business, too. A 2017 report on optimizing financial wellness programs showed that those with low financial wellness and high financial stress cost their employers directly. These costs come in the form of absenteeism, garnishments, and even delayed retirement. Financial stress exists in a variety of demographics. Young adults struggle with high levels of debt, especially school-related debt for college. Families struggle to meet financial goals due to cash flow issues. Even older adults have financial stress from caring for aging parents or children who have returned home. To run a successful financial wellness program in 2019, you need to fully understand the situation of your current workforce. Here are five key financial wellness statistics for 2019 to keep in mind. Employees Regularly Use Retirement Plans as a Safety Net for Current Needs The recently-released 2018 PwC Employee Financial Wellness Survey shows that employees are more focused on finding ways to meet their current needs than saving for the future. In fact, instead of using retirement accounts for taking care of themselves after they leave work, more and more employees are using them as an emergency savings account. 42 percent of employees say it’s likely they’ll need to use money in a retirement account for expenses other than retirement. That percentage jumps significantly when you’re talking to employees who are financially stressed or have significant school loan expenses. To help employees solve this problem, it’s better to help them create a plan to develop emergency savings, rather than to further restrict access to retirement funds. This will help them avoid more expensive emergency cash. The Majority of Employees Define Financial Wellness as Freedom from Stress PwC also found that the majority of employees consider financial wellness to be defined as freedom from stress and worry about money and expenses. 81 percent defined financial wellness as some form of freedom. What does that mean to employers? As you implement your financial wellness programs, find new ways to help employees get the peace of mind they desire. As you encourage employees to participate in initiatives, use the language of “freedom” to help them understand how the initiatives will help them meet their goals. This will increase participation and help more employees find financial balance! Over Half of Employees Want Reassurance about Financial Decisions We all know that financial wellness programs that dictate to employees or require specific actions are more likely to fail. Although many employees are stressed about money, they don’t want to lose their sense of autonomy. However, PwC found that 54 percent of employees want to make their own decisions, but want someone else to validate that they did the right thing. Take advantage of this in your own programs. Offer a variety of good choices and help employees feel good about the steps they choose to take. Consider giving positive reinforcement for that decision repeatedly so that employees stick with it. 20 Percent of Employees would Trade Pay Raises for Better Health Coverage You’d think that with all the talk of financial stress, employees would be very focused on getting more pay for their work. In reality, health care is still a major financial stressor for many workers. 20 percent of employees told PwC that they would be willing to sacrifice future pay raises for better healthcare benefits. If you’re looking to address this concern with a program that works for both you and your employees, HooPayz can be an excellent option. Financial Wellness Programs Improve Satisfaction with Overall Benefits Prudential found that 83 percent of employers offer some form of a financial wellness program, and that doing so makes everyone more satisfied. Both employers and employees report higher satisfaction with their benefit plans when financial wellness is offered. Employers look to financial wellness programs to help them improve employee satisfaction, productivity, and even retirement plan participation. If you’re ready to improve these things at your company in 2019, focusing on financial wellness is a must. Get the Financial Wellness Programs Your Company Needs Today These employee financial wellness statistics for 2019 are very eye-opening. Having a financial wellness program in place is vital. No workplace has exactly the same needs as another, so it’s useful to find a financial products provider that allows you to build your own customized program. Survey employees to discover their specific needs, and then determine what to offer. From small-dollar emergency pay advances, student loan relief, or mobile-based money management, Integrity Data is here to help you. We have a variety of programs to fit the needs of any workplace. Put your employees’ financial concerns first this year, and discover how much your company will benefit! Need more financial wellness statistics to make your case for a program in your workplace? Blog Post: Can’t Touch This: MetaViewer debuts Touchless Invoice Processing

This year, we launched MetaViewer 7, the newest version of our state-of-the-art document management/paperless automation solution. This new edition also features Touchless Invoice Processing for Microsoft Dynamics AX/365 and GP. Yes, completely touchless! MetaViewer 7 brings even more automation to the workplace with immediate feedback from duplicate checking with companies’ ERP solutions. Users no longer need to schedule tasks to be run – MetaViewer 7’s RPA capabilities run tasks constantly and automatically to keep processes streamlined, reduce document processing steps, and eliminate human intervention. MetaViewer 7 is also built on the Windows Workflow Foundation, offering more configuration capabilities, as well as robust, efficient and fast functionality. MetaViewer 7 also features Touchless Invoice Processing for Microsoft Dynamics users. The pinnacle of RPA technology, this functionality processes PO documents and routes them through workflow steps – based on pre-determined rules – without any human intervention needed, freeing up your team to work on more pertinent and less menial tasks. Touchless Invoice Processing matches POs in users’ Microsoft Dynamics solution and runs through a set of evaluation rules to determine whether the PO matches corresponding documents within the system. The PO is then routed directly to Microsoft Dynamics. The system runs rules against the corresponding invoice in Microsoft Dynamics, checking whether it is a current invoice, a duplicate invoice, is open against a PO and other pre-defined evaluation rules as determined by your company. If the PO passes each rule, it is automatically routed to Dynamics. If it fails any of the evaluation rules, users receive a report and are able to manually reconcile the PO.
